CASSELTON, N.D. — Fisher Johnson was pleasantly surprised when the football arrived in his hands after a blocked field goal late in the third quarter. When reality sunk in, the Kindred senior took off down the left sideline. I was like, Oh shoot, I hope I m not too slow. They got some fast guys, Johnson said. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Johnson showcased his speed in the 74-yard field goal block touchdown with a little over one second to play in the quarter. Johnson s special teams touchdown gave the No. 1-ranked Vikings the go-ahead lead and powered the 14-10 victory over the No. 4 Central Cass Squirrels in the North Dakota Division 2A Eastern Dakota Conference football championship. Central Cass' Brody Kegley gets tackled by Kindred's Luke Starcevic during their game on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, at Central Cass High School. Kindred (9-0, 5-0 EDC 2A) earned the No. 1 seed from the East Region heading into the Division 2A playoffs and host West Region No.
